    Belly fat or loose skin?

    I had serious health problems which left me bedridden for two years, during which time I put on an additional 70 pounds.

    But I recovered, and through a program of intense exercise and strict dieting over a period of 9 months, I took that 70 pounds back off.

    But although I’m now at my ideal weight (according to WebMD and the Mayo Clinic’s website), I still have some belly fat that seems extremely resistant to coming off.

    Or so I thought. Squeezing this “fat” in the palm of my hand, it’s only about 3/4 of an inch thick, and seems to be getting less thick with continued training.

    Here’s what I think it really is: a bit of belly fat, but mostly just a lot of very loose skin, I guess because that skin was stretched so far when I got so overweight.

    So here are my questions: will it eventually shrink back so that it’s no longer loose? And if so, how long would that take?

    Or is there any other way to get rid of it, short of surgery? I’m sure my health care insurance won’t pay for any elective surgery. Or maybe a doctor could order it as non-elective surgery, on the grounds that it’s dangerous to my health?

    Aside from the fact I don’t like it, I’m actually under considerable pressure to remove it. So ‘just getting used to it’ isn’t an option.

    Good question. I’m in the same situation (flabby underarms, inner thighs, etc.. I’ve thought of plastic surgery, but all the scars !! There are other options, I think, like laser, freezing, etc.. Hope to hear input from others.

    Well first of all 70 pounds shouldn't stretch your skin too much that you would need surgery.

    Second, I'm sorry to be the first one to say, but if you have too much loose skin, then there is no way to lose it — only surgery.

    Also, when losing weight, you need to lose it slowly and do weight training too, if you did only cardio that's another problem. You burned too much muscle mass, and now your skin is loose.

    Anyway what I want to say is - try to build lean muscle mass, and your skin will get tigher, but if you have too much loose skin, then only surgery can remove it.

    But again, I never saw that 70pounds could stretch skin that much that you would need surgery. Try first building lean muscle mass and after 1-2years see how you look(Yes muscle building is a super slow process, you wont see any results in 3months).

    If you still don't like your skin then go for surgery. But I rather would have more loose skin rather than scars from surgery.
