Halo Top or Arctic Zero ice cream

Has anyone tried one of these low-calorie ice creams? I've seen both of these brands in the supermarket lately, and the carton says they have something like less than 300 calories for a pint. If you've had them do they actually taste like ice cream? And do you think they would be a good substitute for when my sweet tooth kicks in? I can't imagine that they are as good, but one can hope.

I've tried both and some flavors are better than others. I too have wondered if they are actually as good for you as they are made to seem. As far as which to eat...If you're the type of person who can have one small scoop of ice cream and be done, then I would personally go for whatever regular ice cream flavor is your favorite. If you're like me and have less than stellar self control, I've found the low-calorie ice creams to be a good compromise -- you satisfy your cravings without the guilt.

I had halo top chocolate peanut butter; the fat content was only slightly less than Dryers slow churned which advertises half the fat. It was not very creamy but flavor was good.
The Article zero I had was in no way recognizable as ice cream. It was hard frozen and when it warmed up it was not creamy in the least I felt that it was not worth the money.

RE: Halo Top or Arctic Zero ice cream

I have tried Halo Top. I have not heard of Arctic Zero. You should be able to find Halo Top at Krogers. It was ok. I purchased chocolate. You have to let it sit out at room temperature about 4 minutes. Straight from the freezer it is a little chalky. My Weight Watchers instructor had mentioned it as a brand to try out. I will purchase it again. I will also search for Arctic Zero to see which one I like the best.

What flavor did you try? I wasn't a big fan of the chocolate, but I've heard the birthday cake is pretty good.

I love this question and the conversations going on here! This is actually something that I've had questions about (I love a good scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream).

I've actually had the Breyer's (yep, they've jumped on the bandwagon, too) vanilla. It wasn't bad. I put the whole pint in a bowl with calorie-free root beer for a float.
Being lactose-intolerant, it made me just as gassy as regular ice cream would have. (I forgot to take my lactaid first, dangit.)
I have a pint of Enlightened mint chocolate chip that I bought at the same time, but keep forgetting that it's in there. And that's my favorite flavor.
The first flavor I tried was the Enlightened Caramel Oatmeal Cookie Crunch. It was good, but actually too sweet and I didn't eat it all in one setting.

: I just heard about Enlightened today! Did you see that halo top recently came out with dairy-free options? I tried the peanut butter cup and it was really good!

Any time I've tried dairy-free before, I wasn't impressed. So when I crave, I have Lactaid and Gas-X.
I only heard about the Enlightened on accident when I was reading my on-line news and saw an ad for it. I thought I would check to see if Publix had it the next time I went shopping, and crazy enough, there is a whole section of different brands of these ice creams there. Who knew? The 2 brands I've tried haven't been horrible yet. And I'm a forever dieter/calorie counter.
Now only if Haagen Daaz could make a Vanilla Swiss Almond low calorie pint....

: I know what you mean with the dairy-free not being quite as good! I am glad to see that so many new flavors of these low-cal ice creams have come out lately. When I first heard of them they only had chocolate and vanilla. Maybe your vanilla Swiss almond isn't too far in the future ;)
