Daily weed smoker, cough with no other symptoms for 3 months... What is it?

For about 3 years I’ve been smoking weed about once or twice a day from a joint or bong. I never smoke tobacco/blunts, or nicotine vapes. I’m 17 years old, pretty active, and generally healthy. 3 months ago, I got a normal cold, followed by a dry cough. After a couple weeks I began to cough exessive amounts of clear phlegm. Once or twice, there was a little blood in the phlegm. Sometimes, I can’t breath when I cough. I went to the doctor, they said my lungs were clear and prescribed me with an inhaler. It didn’t work. Is this bad? should i quit smoking weed? do you think it’ll ever go away? It is just very annoying and concerning. Something to add is my friend who doesn’t smoke anything whatsoever has also developed an extremely similar cough.

RE: Daily weed smoker, cough with no other symptoms for 3 months... What is it?

whether or not the cough is from smoking weed or not I would suggest you stop smoking the weed if you are concerned about effects of smoking weed. Think about how you feel when the weed wears off- motivated or tired feeling like doing nothing?

Weed has long term effects on memory and can cause depression. These effects may not be seen for a long time but if you are worried about any effects than you should be concerned.

I applaud your honesty and your efforts to seek advice. Anytime you're coughing up phlegm, regardless of the color, you should be concerned and seek medical attention. It could be caused by any number of things (i.e. allergies, infection, inflammation, smoking, etc). I am a mom of a 16 year old son and a 12 year old son so, here comes the "mom talk"... don't smoke....weed, cigarettes, or vaping... breathing in anything into your lungs (excluding oxygen) is never a good thing. I am 43 and have smoked cigarettes for about 20 years total. If I could go back in time and change anything, I would have never picked up that first cigarette. I get short of breath just walking from the parking lot into the store, I have a 'smoker's cough', I smell like an ashtray, and I spend about $300/month (it's basically like taking $300 and lighting it on fire). I understand that there are differences in smoking cigarettes and smoking weed so, this is the last thing I'll say. My sister is a recovering meth addict and she says that when she started smoking weed at 15 years old she would've never thought she'd end up smoking meth. But, the high from the weed became less fulfilling and she sought out other substances. I hope you'll take care of yourself. You have your whole life ahead of you and you have the power to make it amazing!
