    Constipation after quitting smoking

I have been trying to quit smoking for approx 6 months, and have been able to deal with withdrawal symptoms fairly easily however cigarettes had always made me need the toilet and without them I become constipated and so have relapsed due to the discomfort after 3 weeks of not smoking in which time my bowel movements were around once a week and usually did not provide much relief. Are there any aids that could assist me or will this just have to resolve itself over time? Until I can have regular movements without smoking I can’t see myself quitting as I am concerned about a blockage and the discomfort.
