    Side effects from Chantix

I have been taking Chantix to quit smoking for a week. I am having major side effects regarding being irritated, angry, crying, etc. It's honestly getting bad. I also have really lost ambition when it comes to even being productive at work or home. Little things that used to not bother me, are so intense it's crazy. I've also had very vivid dreams at night. My main question is should I continue taking it or stop? I want to quit smoking, but these feelings are not the best especially when you are livid one moment and crying the next.
    Advice is much appreciated.

    RE: Side effects from Chantix

I had a bad reaction to chantix also. It’s on my allergy list. That may not be helpful but I’m struggling with quitting also. I’m on the patch now and I’m only on day three without one. My heart goes out to you because I know how hard it is.

    RE: Side effects from Chantix

I hope that you did stop using Chantix. I took Chantix 8 years ago for a month or two. I did stop for 4 years, but started up again. I only smoke 1 or 2 cigs a day and I only smoke when I am in my car. Chantix is a strange medicine, and it did make me perceive things differently. I lost a very good friend because of my perception of her and the things she did to me. She knew I was trying to quit and she did not understand that I was different from the Chantix, and I thought that I would have to stop associating with her, and I did. She even made fun of me because I used a handheld game player to keep my mind off smoking. I may have looked at things differently, but I did not appreciate how it did not matter to her. It also would deprive me of sleep, at random, and I could have the same dream three nights in a row. But, Chantix worked for me and I really only think about smoking in my car. I am going to try to quit again, now, but I am worried that without that medicine, that I may not be able to. Let me know if it worked for you.

    RE: Side effects from Chantix

I have been smoking for 35 years and lately have really been thinking of quitting, but I still don't desire to. I know I need to because I struggle with the cigarettes being my "go to" for everything, every single, little thing. I am a clean freak and smoke in my house. The cigarette smell is bad so I am constantly cleaning (when I can just stand outside and do it) but the thing is that I smoke all the time! Even while in bed, while watching t.v. Its drives me crazy when I can't smoke, however, sometimes, I think its all in my head because if i have to sit in a 4 hour meeting at work, i'm fine without smoking. I think about it but it doesn't drive me crazy like a fiend.....what is my problem??? I'm sorry, its not a question I'm asking. I'm just thinking out loud while writing this...venting actually. Thanks for reading.

    RE: Side effects from Chantix

I'm taking it as well. I have restless leg syndrome, gaining weight because everything tastes better! LOL I have vivid dreams as well. Same as you - emotional, irritated, angry. But, it.is.working!! I have a mild form of depression, so I knew the contraindications of taking Chantix before I even started. All of those other things are fine.. they are manageable if you can control your emotions. However, if you feel really depressed or have suicidal thoughts, you need to stop taking it immediately and see your doctor. I'm taking Buproprion along with Chantix and my moods aren't that terrible. I also take a natural pill at night to help me sleep. I'm down to one cig per day. You got this!
