Ingrown nail procedure. Fixing the nail?

Many years ago, I had both big toes operated on for ingrown nails. However, the nail bed never grew back and now both toes have narrow nails and appear deformed. Is there a fix for this? I have no issues stemming from the deformity but obviously it is something that can cause some self-concious moments.

RE: Ingrown nail procedure. Fixing the nail?

It sounds like they removed a section of the nail bed along with the ingrown toenail and unfortunately you need that for the nail to grow there. They most likely did that as a preventative measure so you won't get another ingrown. I too have had my big toenail removed a couple times (due to a venomous spider bite)but left the bed intact so my nail could regrow but it doesn't want to grow normally. I'm over it and am no longer self conscious about having a toe without a nail and would just prefer the weird nubby nail to be removed entirely and I'll tattoo my toe to make it appear that there is a nail there. There is also the option of getting pedicures and they put an acrylic nail on your big toes to make them appear normal. I know of a man who does this on his pointer finger!
