    Birth control and antibiotics?

I was taking antibiotics for some cold like symptoms. Then a couple days after I stopped I had sex with both a condom and birth control. However, ive heard birth control is way less effective with the use of anti biotics, and ive heard condoms only protect against STDs not pregnancy. I had breakthrough bleeding the day after sex for about three days. Should I be concerned that im pregnant? Im pretty young so im very worried. Thank you

    RE: Birth control and antibiotics?

Id like to also add that is started off bright red for two days and the last day it was brownish. Ive had brownish period blood before. I also had some cramps. It will also be hard for me to get a hold of a pregnancy test. Are there any home made tests? Thank you

    RE: Birth control and antibiotics?

Hi Birth control pills contain estrogens. Some antibiotics, e.g., rifampin, griseofulvin, cause the enzymes in the liver to increase the break-down of estrogens and thereby can decrease the levels of estrogens in the body and the effectiveness of the pills.

As for condoms when used correctly and consistently—prevent pregnancy about 98 percent of the time safe from getting pregnant, BC pills are 99.9% when used propably.

Break through Bleeding, Such mild bleeding is referred to as “spotting”.Heavy bleeding may also occur in some women. It usually last just for about 1 to 2 days and then ceases. The bleeding will normally subside as the body adapts to the new hormonal levels in the blood.

Implantation bleeding is normally very light and brown or pinkish in color. Because very little blood is shed during implantation, it takes some time for the body to release the blood. As it makes its way out, it ages and turns a brownish color. Bright red blood can be a sign of implantation, but it's less likely.

Bright red could have been from rough sex, The most common causes for vaginal bleeding after sex both start in the cervix, which is the narrow, tube-like end of the uterus that opens into the vagina. One of those causes is cervical inflammation, or cervicitis. ... Both types of cervical inflammation can cause bleeding after sex.

    Hope this helps you.

    RE: Birth control and antibiotics?

    1. Condoms are highly effective at preventing pregnancy when used correctly.
    2. Not all antibiotics affect the pill, in fact, very few of them do.
    3. Bleeding after sex is not a sign of pregnancy.
    4. If you were to have implantation bleeding it wouldn't be until 6-10 days after sex.
    5. Common causes of vaginal bleeding after sex:

Bottom line, if you miss your period take a pregnancy test.
