I wet the bed
Last night I was woken by me urinating on myself. I was in complete shock. I have never had bladder problems before and have NEVER wet the bed as an adult. Should I be concerned? I don't know if I should call my neurologist or wait to see if it happens again. I know that I do not have a bladder infection. I've had tons of bladder infections in my life time and can tell I am getting one before it even registers on the quick test at the doctors. Is bed wetting common with MS?

RE: I wet the bed
mssuperwoman, urinary and bowel incontinence are unpleasant things many of us deal with at some point. Though I've never wet the bed, there were a couple of occasions where I failed to make it to the bathroom in time to empty bladder and, even worse, my bowel! It's so upsetting and scary. I was worried it would keep happening. Fortunately it rarely does.
Something that might help: try not to drink anything those last few hours in the evening, and empty your bladder before bedtime.
If you want to wait and see, then note when it happened and report it to your neuro during your next appt. Write down anything else you might think contributed to it if that's relevant. Of course, if it happens again, you'd probably want to call your doc at that point for advice.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. You are not alone. I hope you'll check in with us again if anything changes. --Kim

RE: I wet the bed
I have had complete urine retention and incontinence, together with bowel problems, for years as a result of MS. I would see a good urologist as soon as possible. Believe it or not, you may be retaining urine as well as urinating in your sleep. I have had to catheterize for at least 10 years. Believe me, it's not so bad once you get used to it. Please don't wait, though. If you are retaining urine, sooner or later you will develop a very bad infection. I simply wear pull-up diapers 24/7 to deal with the incontinence. It's no fun, but really, on a scale of things we have to deal with, with MS, it's nothing!
