    new type of behavior therapy

I saw a commercial about a new therapy that uses a "cap" and some type of laser or electric charge.

I have been doing EMDR therapy with little progress and hoping to try
something else. I do not want to surrender to medication as a solution to my problems.

Do you know what this therapy is called so that I can try to find a local provider?

RE: new type of behavior therapy

I'm not sure I know what treatment you are talking about, but I have come across something called NeuroStar TMS that is a non-medication treatment for depression - typically, treatment resistant depression. Many insurances cover it and apparently, it's been pretty effective.

A quote from the site is: "Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what is used in an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. While the patient is awake and alert, NeuroStar TMS Therapy stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in depression."

    Here's the website https://neurostar.com/

There is another one called Neurostim TMS that looks to be the same thing but maybe under a different organizational name - not sure, but here's the website if you want to check it out https://neurostimtms.com/

I am in the process of checking these out and seeing if it's a possibility for me.

    Best to you

RE: new type of behavior therapy

It’s called Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation or rTMS. A magnetic pulse is delivered to the prefrontal cortex to rebuild neurotransmitters to revive the part of the brain dulled by depression. I’m starting it in a week. It’s 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Luckily my insurance will cover 100% with no co-pay.
