Not impressed by most anti-anxiety meds

I have to be honest, I've been switched back and forth between BuSpar and Vistaril for years, and neither one has been very effective in helping my anxiety. Currently, I am maxed out on BuSpar, and take Propanalol, and Prazosin as well...yet I still have chest pain on a regular basis. Nothing wrong with my heart, just anxiety related.

RE: Not impressed by most anti-anxiety meds

You might want to try Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It's one of the better and proven, non-medication treatments for anxiety. Also, it's a long term treatment, i.e. you learn tools and methods to control your anxiety and it works as long as you are willing to do the work and not give up on it in the beginning.

We have more control over our feelings than we realize. We experience anxiety when we let our thoughts feed it. If I think about anxiety producing things, then my emotions are going to react accordingly because they (our feelings) don't know the difference between fact and fiction. They just react to what they hear from our thoughts. I could send myself into a fit of anxiety if I dwell on certain thoughts. So the key is controlling our thoughts, then our emotions will follow suit.

Anyway, I would highly encourage you to find a therapist who can teach you the principles of CBT, and you can do this individually or a group class. You can even learn online. There are many classes for CBT online.

    Best to you
