    sepsis pathogens

I am not sure exactly how this happens or if there are certain circumstances in which it does not apply .. so i hope this makes sense!

I have a cousin who has Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Hemolytic Anemia, Pernicious Anemia, Iron Deficiency Anemia, RA, and a lot of other things that go along with that. She is not in remission. her immune system is weak. her wbc count is low.

Her mom is currently in the hospital after going into septic shock due to a colon perforation. I know sepsis ITSELF ISN'T CONTAGIOUS, but I know the pathogens that cause it usually are contagious.

    This confuses me.
    Would that apply here?
