    PrEP and PEP

I might have been exposed to HIV a day ago. I went to the doctor to get PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) but she didn't know what I was talking about and said that what I meant was probably Truvada, which I understand is PrEP (pre exposure prophylaxis). I read that if you were possibly exposed to HIV, you would need to start taking PEP within 72 to prevent the infection. She had me do an HIV test and if it comes out negative she's going to give me the Truvada, but such a recent exposure would cause it to come out negative anyway. From what she explained, they sound similar, so are PrEP and PEP the same, and should I take the Truvada even though I might have been exposed a day ago? In the drug information it even says to not take it if you have been exposed to HIV within a month.
