    Autoimmune Hepatitis

My son was recently diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis type 1. He is 14 years old and recently started medication (Prednisone & 6MP) which he has responded well to. He has really severe acne and I'm wondering if this is related to the meds or the AIH? He had acne before he started meds.
Anyone else out there with a teenager with this diagnosis. It's so rare and I can't accept that this is his life forever.
    Thanks

    RE: Autoimmune Hepatitis

The course of treatment sounds right and I don't know about the acne...sorry. But as for the rest of his life, I've seen amazing advances in treating HCV over the last 20 years and hope this will be true for your son as well. My strategy, learned over many years, was to approach each day as new because none of us can predict the future. Just think about how many times you've been wrong about just about everything in the past :) . Taking it one day at a time is the only way to handle the long run...if it turns out to BE long. If you can do this for yourself, it will be a tremendous gift for both yourself and, in particular, your son. It's hard to have hope when contemplating an endless grim future, so let it go. There are lots of resources available in communities and online for developing skills in this area. Wishing you lots of peaceful days -
