    Hepatitis C exposure

There was an accident at work. I wasnt hurt. The employee that was hurt, cut the artery in his wrist. I got his blood on my hands. I had fresh scratches on my hands. He told me he has hepatitis c and os an intravenous drug user. I have a few questions.
    1) how soon should o het tested for hep c and hiv?
    2) do i need to be tested more than once amd for how long?
    3) should i treat this as a workers comp case?
I just dont know enough to make a decision. Ty

    RE: Hepatitis C exposure

Typically screening can be done at one month, followed by three months. However, keep in mind that unless your "fresh scratches" involve OPEN, BLEEDING wounds these are not likely to be "open portals" into your body and thus pose no risk for transmission for either of these viruses. Even fresh scratches seal quickly and once sealed they are not the entrances into the body required for transmission to occur.
