    Chest discomfort after stent

40 yr old male, I had 100% blockage in my right coronary artery. Had a very successful stent procedure and felt great after. Now I have what feels like the physical symptoms of anxiety in my chest, with no other mental or physical indications of being anxious. Plus I never had any problems with anxiety before procedure. Completed 18 sessions of cardio rehab with no problems. Feeling isn't severe and comes and goes. I did return to ER at my nurses request and all heart tests came back great. Is this a normal feeling?

    RE: Chest discomfort after stent

    "Is this a normal feeling?"

    Not typically.

Sometimes, various symptoms may/can be a direct result of side effects from one or more prescription meds.

Also, in some cases, chest discomfort or even pain, may/can occur anytime after a coronary stent has been implanted.

As reported and as deemed applicable to the patient, such dscomfort (or pain) may/can be indicative of acute coronary artery closure, though not at the stented site, rather distal or proximal to it, coronary artery spasm, also distal or proximal to the stented site, or worse case scenario being a heart attack (myocardial infarction, MI), but may/can also simply reflect local coronary artery trauma., such as coronary arterial wall stretching or is of non-cardiac origin, such as musculoskeletal, pulmonary, gastrointestinal or pyschogenic.

Bottom line, coronary stents (drug-eluting or bare-metal) are just a Band-aid or spot treatment, as it does not address the underlying disease process and what drives the progression.

Most important, coronary artery disease (CAD) is a lifelong unpredictable (can exhibit periods of stabilization, acceleration, and even some regression) condition, requiring a continuum of care, as well as good doctor-patient/patient-doctor communication and understanding at ALL times.

ALWAYS be proactive in your health care and treatment.
