My wife has been diagnosed with bouts of tachycardia. Before this diagnosis, she was having irregular heartbeats and a loop recorder was inserted in her chest to record these. These irregular heartbeats and tachycardia occur at any time of the day or night, she does have to be doing anything strenuous, just sitting, or sleeping. Just this morning after returning to bed from taking her medications, she was jolted from sleep by a bout of tachycardia. What can be causing these irregular heartbeats and tachycardia when no strenuous activity be being performed? Thanks for any information.

    RE: Tachycardia

Few specific problems or condtions can cause sudden bouts of tachycardia or supraventricular tachycardia. To get the best possible reason as to why it is occurring and the appropriate treatment, seeing an interventional cardiologist who also happens to be an electrophysiologist (EP) is the best bet.

Thank you very much. We'll see if her internal medicine clinic can schedule her for a consult with a cardiologist with the displines you mentioned.

    RE: Tachycardia

Her doctor is the best to check with but sometimes very simple things like needing to drink more water, less stress (meditation, someone reading to her or listening to music) could help. Also blood pressure varies at times and it could be a little elevated, let the doctor know any specific details as they will help him.
