    Fibro symptoms

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after many years of complaints to my doctor. ANA, RA both negative, high CRP and above normal Sed Rate. Went to a rheumatologist, who basically laughed and said, " you're getting older." I'm 58. I am always fatigued, always having pain, brain fog. Now, I've been having night sweats to the point of being soaked. Has anyone else had this experience? Also, what's the best thing to take for pain? I can't take NSAIDS and when I ask for a refill of Norco- I'm scrutinized for being a drug seeker. I can't win, it's like no one believes you and your symptoms with this condition. Would it be a good idea to seek help with a larger hospital group, perhaps Johns Hopkins, Hershey? Thanks!

    RE: Fibro symptoms

i am so sorry your doctor is an idiot. fire that doctor and find one with a brain. rheumatologists were tasked with treating fibro years ago, but the ones i've known within the past 10 years or so no longer treat it. my fibro is being treated by a pain management and rehabilitation doctor. i know how difficult it is to get adequate pain control because i am allergic to a great many effective drugs. and, these days, it seems that anyone with chronic pain has a difficult time getting proper pain management because of the people who abuse prescription drugs. however, a good pain management doctor can craft a mixture of medications that are not addictive or viewed with suspicion. i have a bunch of chronic illnesses, but my formula for fibromyalgia includes tramadol, robaxin, zanaflex, cymbalta, and gabapentin. those are not only for pain control, but also for improving sleep and brain fog. i take provigil for the overwhelming fatigue. it sounds like you may not be too far away from ohio. if so, i would urge you to consider seeing dr. mark pellegrino at ohio rehab center in north canton, ohio. he is the ultimate fibromyalgia in the universe. no one understands us the way he does because he actually HAS fibromyalgia himself. otherwise i do think your chances of being taking seriously lay with larger institutions. i hope this helps, and send you my warmest wishes.

Thank you for your reply! I took your advise and made appts with a new rheumatologist and with pain management. It feels good to be validated and know that others understand fibro. When I called the new rheumatologist, her staff seemed sympathetic and encouraged me to come in.

    RE: Fibro symptoms

I have all of your symptoms too, I can't NSAIDS so I take Cymbalta. I just started it so not sure if it will help but I have bad night sweats too. Everyone is a drug seeker apparently, I also can't get any pain meds unless I go to pain management.

I know, I just got back from running errands and I'm exhausted and in so much pain! Not looking forward to taking pain meds but I could Definately use some now. I heard Cymbalta can work but I already take Effexor and it doesn't make much difference. Good luck!
