    GERD, CHEST PAINS, COUGHING, WHEEZING

I was recently diagnose with GERD, 3 Ulcers of the esophagus/stomach, hiatal hernia, and bronchitis due to GERD. this has been a nightmare for me. I already suffer from insomnia, which i take medicine for and having GERD is making my life so miserable. I developed a severe cough and wheezing, in which my inhaler or breathing machine is not helping. My chest pains are so bad to the point I throught that i was having a heart attack this past Sunday, in, which i went to the ER. They didn't do much there. My pain is so severe, I find myself crying!!! I have prescription meds but I had to change pharmacy because of my insurance, so the new pharmacy wouldn't refill my medicine. My doctor called in my new prescription and the new pharmacy sent over a request for permission to fill,...etc. To make a long story short, I still don't have my meds, for over a month now. Can someone tell me what, if any home remedies are available?

All to well do I know the struggle of some of your symptoms. I’ve been battling progressive chest pain from GERD for over 2 years and it’s getting worse. I haven’t found much home remedies for the pain but one thing that helps me to sleep sometimes is ‘Vick’s vapor rub’ directly on my chest where the pain is. Sorry to hear your battle! It’s frustrating and for me, doctors almost act as if I’m lying when I explain my chest pain from GERD.

To counter the acid that “shoots” up your throat and causes the extreme chest pain, I take Alka Seltzer, sometimes five or six glasses before the pain subsides. However, each tablet contains 325 milligrams of aspirin. Now, I use a teaspoon of baking soda in four ounces of water. I’ve had GERD for over 25 years and this is the only way I can ease my chest pains

"Funny" (not really, of course) you said you went to ER as you thought you were having a heart attack. The same happened to me! Then when it comes to meds for my G.E.R.D. and in my "travels" the ONLY proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that I can take successfully is Dexilant. My insurance beefs me all the time and tries to insist I take a generic which simply don't work. Trust me, because, (I won't lie) the copays are ridiculous (for a 90 day supply I pay well over $300) BUT have found over the years that it is THE only one that works. And the weird part of it is that when I've been hospitalized for other issues and they ask me for a list of meds they won't provide Dexilant...so, (shhhh!) my son has to sneak it in. Seriously, it is THE only one that works and have had NO issues whatsoever with it. Another PPI that is similar and have taken is Aciphex and found it was somewhat more expensive but not by much and it also helped me immeasurably. Good luck and INSIST INSIST INSIST.

I’ve run into insurance suddenly not covering my cheaper drug which had worked so well. Ive rotated thru the years on ppi’s when they stopped being effective. Eventually I cycled back on prevacid which worked great again after not working for 10. Then it went otc and I got it that way. Before it went otc, my insurce stopped covering it. It took my doctor filling out crappy paperwork to insist and show them nothing else worked. Then rhey covered it. Now, prevacid stopped working (sad) and pantoprazole (protonix) is only drug that now works. I get it still if I eat certain foods (regret it terribly) or eat later than 8 pm. When it hits, it shoots into my mouth, out my nose, and actually into my tear ducts and let me tell you my eyes sting terribly! Ididnt believe was possible so told doc and he showed me how it WAS possible. The pain in my throat is so severe I cry and throw up and gag for a half hour. Worst experience ever. Id like to find Something that can ease the pain of the horrendous burning when I get an episode. Anyone have something that works? I end up with raspy voice and cough for 2 days. Also my rear teeth are all enamel eroded from the acid and ive had all my upper teeth now ground down and had crown put on (terribly expensive) and front tooth broke off twice till they did a dental implant (5 times more expensive) . Dental should be covered since it is from a physically documented disease causing it!! But nothing is right with insurance. So forget that. Ive also ended up with esophageal strictures being dialated 4 times now. Anyone have ideas that help reduce the terrible pain and burning after a bad episode? Please!!

RE: GERD, CHEST PAINS, COUGHING, WHEEZING

To treat GERD you should avoid smoking and try as much as possible to get rid of excess weight, taking care to avoid eating high-fat foods, and avoid eating fried foods and citrus.

Stay away from chocolates, hot foods, stimulants such as coffee and tea.

Do not take liquids except water before bedtime, while maintaining sleep and the upper part of your body is higher than the bed level.

Ginger helps to absorb the acids in the stomach, and therefore has a large role in the elimination of nausea, and works to treat the symptoms of GERD, as Ginger helps to empty the contents of the stomach, and thus reduce pressure on the wall of the stomach, and treatment of stomach irritation and the elimination of pain.

Chamomile tea is one of the most important drinks that works on the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and treatment of GERD. Chamomile or camomile tea contains a large proportion of anti-inflammatory substances, and in turn helps to calm the stomach and eliminate the feeling of stomach pain, Puffiness, gas and reduction of GERD.

Fennel seeds work on the treatment of disorders of the digestive system, it works to reduce the secretion of acids in the stomach, and works to treat the feeling of burning, and get rid of gas and bulges, and alleviate the pain of the digestive system, you can eat half a teaspoon of fennel seeds, or soak the seeds in hot water and drink it.
Certainly you will feel way better.
    Good luck!
