    Acid reflux

    Hello just joined this group:)
About 2 weeks ago I woke up one morning with pain mostly under right rib cage but as the day progressed it went up the center of my chest as well.
I have been diagnosed 3 years ago with GERD and put on pantoprazole 40mg daily. I have been on and off of it since.
I have been on it steady though for the last year and now it doesn’t seem to be working. I have been eating very carefully and am also trying acupuncture. Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen with their medication all of a sudden not working.

    RE: Acid reflux

I have been suffering with acid reflux and gerd off and on for years so I feel your pain. Originally I was on omezprazole and that worked for years and then after my father got really sick the stress of everything got to me and the acid reflux came back and it was a pain under your rib cage where it feels so uncomfortable it's like somebody is standing on you. They switched my meds to the pantoprazol but I didn't feel any different and it was too expensive for my insurance company so they switched me to ranitidine. Off and on I didn't feel good for almost 2 years and I have a neurological disease where everything is hard anyway so with this had pain for my stomach or whatever is under your rib cage I just felt so crappy all the time. And then it went away. It was just like a miracle all of a sudden I was fine now 6 months later it's starting again and for the past two weeks I felt really bad and don't even know what to do with this point. The last time I had every test known to mankind and every scan of every body part because nobody could figure out what the hell it was and they don't know if it's related to my neurological disease which is extremely rare or the acid reflux and the pain so bad sometimes it wakes me up in the morning. The only thing that helps a little bit is oxycodone which I'm on for my disease. It's so crazy and I feel so crappy I wish I had somebody that would just put me in the car and take me for every test I needed so they could find out if something was wrong with me but like I said last time they did every test and they still didn't find out and they even tested my stomach enzymes see how my food was moving through my GI tract. Now I know you didn't want to hear this but the meds do stop working sometimes so you might want to call your doctor and just ask him if he could describe something a little bit stronger. If that doesn't do the trick I would tell my GI doctor I want a good work up I want them to test my stomach enzymes, I wanted to make sure the food is moving through my intestinal tract, I want an endoscopy etc. But the first thing I would definitely do is ask them to change and maybe give you a stronger prescription or maybe even try Pepcid over the counter and go from there
