    Routine and Debilitating Stomach Pain

For the past 6 months or so, I get terrible stomach pains, but only at night, typically around 10PM. It can start before or after I eat. The pain will begin as a dull ache in my rib cage, and will slowly expand to cover my entire abdomen. The pain is an unbearable, stabbing/ pulsating pain, and the only relief is to lie down with my knees up to my chest. It is affecting my work, school, and social life.
I had a Dr.s appointment two weeks ago. He is considering IBS, and recommended I cut out sugars, breads, dairies, and processed foods. I have completely cut these things out, and even with the anti-cramping meds perscribed, have not noticed a difference.
Any ideas about what this issue might indicate?
Also, when my stomach ache begins, my left shoulder also aches- I'm not sure how that's related.

RE: Routine and Debilitating Stomach Pain

Is it possible the problems are related to acid reflux or GERD? I am not a medical professional, but I did have these same symptoms, plus a few others, for years until five months ago, when I had a sliding hiatal hernia repaired , a Heller Myotomy and a Dor Fundoplication. Some people in a support group online have also reported pain in shoulders, sinuses, upper back and chest before surgery.I suggest seeing a gastroenterologist for appropriate tests.

I have a sliding hiatel hernia also, but my Gastro doctor told me not to worry about it. So, the surgery resolved your issues with cramps, nausea, gas, etc?

Perhaps cutting out gluten, going gluten free is not easy it’s a bit of a mine field, also might take a couple of weeks to take effect if it is gluten you have an intolerance to.
