    Trouble with Breathing

i'm a 20 year old female who was a smoker for 5+ years, but now i am almost 1 year cigarette free. i've noticed that i've always had a shortness of breath and hard time breathing. it also sometimes feels like someone is sitting on my chest not allowing me to breathe. i figured because i quit smoking this stuff would improve over the course of a year but it hasn't. my grandmother (ex-smoker) and mother (never a smoker) both have been diagnosed with COPD and asthma. i plan on making a doctor's appointment to get myself checked out. what are your opinions? what questions should i ask my doctor? please and thank you.
