    HealthCare Treatment

I have been diagnosed w/diabetes,high blood pressure &high cholesterol. I understand that patient's feet are suppose to be checked. Due to my race & status, the medical staff treat me as if I have a disease. Before going to my health facility, I take care of all hygienic concerns. Many of their patients are well-to-do. But I'm probably one of their poorer patient. There are other problems, but I still use there services reluctantly. Frustrated

re: Credentials Don’t Shield Doctors, Nurses from Bias

I'm a retired RN. I had to leave nursing in the late '90's due to a medical condition. I saw a few incidents of biased remarks by patients and hospital staff, but what I saw much more frequently was verbal abuse to nursing staff by doctors. I worked almost 30 years starting in the 70's as a nursing assistant while going to school, graduating and working as an RN in ER, Peds and Med/Surg Units. The last 12 years were spent in Nursing Supervision. On at least a weekly basis, 1 or more....

Recalled DePuy ASR Total Hip Replacement

I was diagnosed with MS - About nine months later I had a near fatal head on wreck (not my fault).... They replaced my hip. Dr. told me that this hip would never have to be replaced. I asked about metal residue. He said that any residue would be so small that it would easily pass through the capillary walls and be eliminated normally. He looked me in the eye and said that this DePuy hip was actually better than a real hip...... About six months later I felt a "pop" and I fell. I went to....

    Bias in the Doctor's office!

Yes, I definitely RECEIVED bias FROM my doctor...NOT the other way around! 3 yrs ago, I had to see an orthopedic MD for a severe, burning and unrelenting pain in my left knee...sudden onset when I pushed the leg portion of my recliner down to get out of the chair. Apparently, I tore my meniscus in my left knee. I called my orthopedic office (had been seen there previously for a foot issue) and begged for an appointment ASAP as I was in excruciating pain! Well, I was seen the next day by another MD....

    Breast cancer surgery

My surgeon wanted me to see this plastic surgeon that he normally sends patients to. After examining me and reading all the reports. He came back in the exam room and straight out said....I’m seriously considering not touching you. I’ve never seen breast this big ( 48 H) . He kept saying it over and over again. He then said breast that large are a big risk. In fact he says: I don’t know why any doctor would take you on as a patient?!?! Needless to say I reduced to tears. I was crying so hard that....

    weight bias

I went to a doctor for a long time and she said nothing about my weight, as she was also overweight. I had gastric bypass and lost 182 pounds, and was even a little underweight. But as happens with most people, I gained some weight back. In the mean time she had the gastric bypass that causes you to have nutritional issues, but will not let you absorb 66% of the food you eat. She then chastised me for gaining weight. The doctor I go to now says something every time I gain a little weight, but never....
  • Dr's Bias Against My Mental Illness

A few yrs ago I hit my head & ended up with a concussion. After some tests, they found out my right carotid artery was 60% blocked. I was sent to a Neurologist in Renton, Wa. Several tests over several months showed it steadily getting worse. He said surgery to fix it was many minths off - I was fine! I ended up in the ER a bunch of times with SEVERE headaches & passing out. This Neurologist scolded me & told me to stop exaggerating my symptoms. He assumed I was doing so because I suffer....

    Doctor bias.

I had a this doctor for 2-3 years. I went to him for severe pain in my shoulder. I was working out doing hitt classes 3x a week and Spin 2-3x a week . He never physically touched my shoulder in any form of examination, he gave me medication, a muscle relaxer. I realized this pill was too strong and not working on my pain. I went back. He said "women over exaggerate and come to the doctor for every little ache and pain." I went back to the doctor and finally convinced him that there was....

    Medical office bias comment

I have had bias towards me because of my ethnicity at a Hospital and my doc's office. The bias came from someone who was also ethnic and in both cases i was helped by someone who was not ethnic so i say to the notion of a diverse workplace, it's not always what it's stocked up to be. Smdh.
