RE: dry flakes - cant stop scratching - white flakes like dandruff

give her a bath with oatmeal shampoo. add a teaspoon of coconut oil to her food for a few days increase it to 2 teaspoons for a week and then to a tablespoon each day. you can also use the coconut oil on her skin... very sparingly or she will be greasy and oily. the coconut oil should be liquid, it will get solid if it gets cold and will warm up if the ambient temp is warmer. dogs do have allergies and I would try this before you get an expensive Rx from your vet. are her eyes red and runny? yes=allergy. sneezing=allergy.

RE: dry flakes - cant stop scratching - white flakes like dandruff

This happens every year to my dog as summer goes into fall. I've taken him to vet and it's just a case of allergies. Flakes can be signs of other skin problems too like mange or lice, so if you aren't sure or if it's just not getting better you might want to check with your vet.

When I see him start to itch more as the seasons change I start with giving him a good bath and then work coconut oil (not too much) into his skin. Also, at the suggestion of my vet he gets fish oil with his food every day which have really helped with his coat. I have tried putting coconut oil in his food, but he really doesn't like that taste and refuses to eat it. Hope this helps!

Hi! Were you able to find out what was causing your dog's itchy, flaky skin? It is possible for your dog to have allergies. Your vet is the best person to determine what exactly is going on with your pup, but in the meantime you can see what some allergic reactions and other doggy skin problems (including dry, flaky skin) look like here: http://wb.md/2z2WniL
